Sticking with the theme of this blog, we want to wrap the year up by picking out our top Japs' style staples. These are like Julie's style must-haves. We selected five items or trends that she wore several times, and rocked in 2012. We listed them from fifth to first. Read on and do tell us what you think.
5. Shorts
Over the years, the use of shorts have evolved from just a casual piece to sometimes dressy, depending on the style. And with Julie, we usually see her wear shorts during rehearsals only. Even so, those shorts have changed from just the classic cut-offs to the more trendy ombre ones that we super love. Later in the year, Japs began wearing those cute dressy shorts that she usually paired with blazers or sheer tops for a smart casual look for her events. If we have to pick, our favorite is the scallop hem pair she wore to Celebrity Bluff. It was a mix of sexy and girly, which is what shorts are mainly about.
4. Orange
Is it even a surprise that the color orange is part of our list? Orange is one of the refreshing main colors of 2012 for most fashion lines and, as we all know, IS Julie Anne's favorite color. For her Party Pilipinas production numbers, Japs wore mostly black and pink clothes that are also good colors for her. Black makes her look more sophisticated while pink, even if Julie has an initial aversion to it ;), looks very well with her complexion. But when it comes to more personal items and stuff that she use more often, orange is definitely THE color for her. Her tees, tank tops, bags, shoes.. even her nails are in shades of orange!
3. Blazers
What we like about Julie's style is that even if it's becoming more fun and more fresh as time goes by, it remains pragmatic. Have you ever wondered why she wears long-sleeved tops, usually blazers, to her mall shows and out-of-town gigs? Aside from the fact that a blazer can add an instant dressy vibe to an outfit, it protects Julie from the cold and the unexpected bruises and scratches from people who get too excited when they see her. ;) It can also play down an outfit that may be too sexy for her taste. Although Japs is trying to keep from getting more blazers now, we still think that a blazer is one of every girls' closet staples- for aesthetic and practical purposes.
2. Corsets
Like shorts, corset tops have changed in style and use over the years. They used to be just for undergarments but now, corsets can be incorporated to outfits in different styles. Corsets are popularly paired with mullets but Japs have paired them also with jeans, bodycons, shorts, and used them as inner tops beneath her sheer ones. One time, Julie shared to us that she's actually collecting corsets so we think we'll be seeing more of them in the future. With its versatility and chicness, we definitely say yes to more corsets in 2013! ;)
1. Peplum
For our top style staple, it's the peplum trend! We think the fashion world has been taken by storm by this style and Japs wasn't an exception. With the strategically placed ruffles and cinching, peplums tend to give a girl more curves while concealing the tummy area. Perfect, right? And this style evolved quickly in the past year! We saw Japs wore peplum dresses, tops, and skirts in different colors for different looks. She wore one to a casual meet-and-greet, another to their premiere night, a few in Party Pilipinas, another few to her TV guestings.. and the list goes on. Shops even have peplum belts now, which we are yet to see Japs use. We're curious if the peplum trend will continue on to 2013. All we know is that Japs looks good in it. ;)
Thanks much for reading. Can you add more style staples to our list? ;) Happy new year again and don't forget to catch Japs later at the GMA year-end countdown! xx
